Learning Objectives

    By the end of the course, the participant will

  • Explain the purpose of wellbeing and impact it has on their work and life.
  • Identify key factors that contribute to workplace burnout and sustainability.
  • Create and implement a personal Wellbeing Practice.
  • Develop strategies for refining their Wellbeing Practice and continuing their commitment to the practice as circumstances in their lives change.
  • Connect their personal practice to the larger socio-cultural, political, and professional contexts in which they work.
Topics
  • Wellbeing and Why It’s Important: Define key vocabulary related to wellbeing, review a conceptual framework to wellbeing, along with the science to support the practice. Identify what ‘hooks’ you and how to shift your state of being during stressful times.
  • Sustaining Ourselves: The Consequences of Burnout: Assess your risk of burnout and describe the connection between wellbeing and burnout. Identify key factors that contribute to workplace burnout and sustainability and individual work habits and patterns causing burnout.
  • What Is a Wellbeing Practice? Describe the key elements that make up a Wellbeing Practice and explain the difference between a Wellbeing Practice and self-care. Select a Wellbeing Practice that is best suited for you.
  • Building Your Practice: Refine your Wellbeing Practice for a better fit and identify personal/internal obstacles to your wellbeing practice. Create a structure for your daily practice.
  • Sustaining Your Practice: Identify external obstacles that hinder or prevent you from sustaining your Wellbeing Practice and list strategies to overcome external obstacles. Describe how individual wellbeing impacts the larger community and identify support systems that can help to sustain one’s Wellbeing Practice.
  • Reflection and Continuation: Continue your Wellbeing Practice beyond the structure of this course and if desired, connect to a community of support and practice.
